Generally, a vignette is defined as a ‘brief evocative description, account, or episode. A small illustration or portrait photograph that fades into its background without a definite border.’ This vivid term not only applies to literature and art, but it also applies to the world of design and staging. In interior design a vignette is ‘a small, pleasing picture formed by grouping several objects- a pocket-size table arrangement that tells a story about you and your home.’

This ‘fairy-garden’ sized aspect of design is affordable, accessible and adds depth to the entire narrative of the room. Any corner or small space in your home that needs a little love will absolutely benefit from a vignette, and you may even have a little fun in the process. First, identify the space! Second, think of a theme and lastly, let the creative juices flow. Often in the staging of kitchens, we enjoy crafting nooks with themes of coffee, wine, mixology and pasta.
